Egyptian Lover
1984

Listening notes

Egyptian Lover's *1984*, released in 2015 on his own Egyptian Empire Records (catalog number DMSR-1984), is a double LP spanning four sides and twelve tracks. The album sits at the intersection of electro, electronic, and hip hop, genres that have defined the Los Angeles artist's output across his career.

The record opens with "Into The Future" at 6:25, one of two tracks on the set that cross the six-minute mark alongside the nine-minute-plus combined runtime anchor of side C's closing track "P.E.L.F.," which runs 6:59. Side D opens with "Freaky Deaky Machine" at 5:32 before winding down through "Zombies" and closing cut "Perfection." The sequencing across the four sides distributes the runtime broadly, with no single side carrying an obviously disproportionate load.

The title itself warrants a straightforward note for the record: despite bearing the name *1984*, this is a 2015 release, not an archival pressing or reissue of earlier material. Collectors and browsers encountering it in the used market or in catalogs should take care not to conflate the title with a period of Egyptian Lover's original 1980s recording activity.

Egyptian Empire Records, the artist's own imprint, serves as the releasing label, continuing a pattern of self-released output that has characterized portions of Egyptian Lover's discography. The twelve-track, double-LP configuration gives the album a substantial physical presence on vinyl, with catalog number DMSR-1984 serving as the identifier for those researching pressings or cross-referencing database entries.
