Listening notes

Released in 2018 on New Zealand's A Low Hum label, *Buy Now* by Eyeliner (2) is catalogued under the number HUM057 and issued on vinyl. The record sits within the electronic and vaporwave genres, placing it in a lineage of music that draws on digital and consumer culture as both material and subject matter — a context that makes the album's title and many of its track names feel deliberate rather than incidental.

The tracklist across both sides runs to eleven selections. Side A opens with "Toy Dog" at four minutes and six seconds, followed by "Sneakers For Men," "Pinot Noir," "High Heels," and the side's longest entry, "Payphone," which extends to six minutes and twenty-one seconds. Side B carries six tracks: "Venetian Blinds," "Showbiz," "Windchimes," "Chit Chat," the brief "Private Hospital" at one minute and seventeen seconds, and closing selection "Pictionary" at four minutes and thirty-one seconds. The combined runtime suggests a record of moderate length, with individual pieces ranging from that short terminal track on Side B to the extended "Payphone" and "Pinot Noir," the latter running five minutes and thirty-four seconds.

Taken as a list, the titles — toy dogs, sneakers, pinot noir, payphones, venetian blinds — read as an inventory of objects and brand-adjacent nouns. Whether this reflects intentional commentary on consumption and commodity culture, a quality vaporwave as a genre has frequently engaged with, is a reasonable inference given the genre framing, though any firmer claim about intent or meaning would go beyond what the available information confirms.

A Low Hum has operated as an independent label with releases across various formats; HUM057 represents one entry in that catalogue. This draft has not been verified against primary sources and should be reviewed before publication.
