Folamour
Umami

Listening notes

Folamour's debut album Umami arrived in 2017 on Moonrise Hill Material, the Lyon-based producer's own imprint, catalogued as MHMLP001. The record spans nine tracks across four sides of vinyl, placing it in the double-album format and touching on genres including deep house, house, hip hop, and electronic music more broadly.

The tracklist itself hints at a range of tonal and structural intentions. Side A opens with "Night Of Desirable Objects," the longest track on that side at six minutes and fifty-six seconds, before moving through "Y'all Right" and the comparatively brief "Petit Prince Du Macadam," which runs just over three minutes. Side B carries two extended pieces: "Ivoire" at eight minutes and fifteen seconds, and "Look At Me Or I'll Steal Your Eyes" at seven fifty-five. Side C is anchored by "Devoted To U," the album's longest track at ten minutes and nine seconds, followed by "Oyabun." Side D closes the record with "Kickflipin' That Stuff" and "Jah Love," the latter stretching to seven minutes and forty-six seconds.

The track titles themselves are a varied collection, drawing on French phrasing alongside English, and suggesting a sensibility that moves between the playful and the considered without settling in any single register. The album's cumulative runtime across all four sides is substantial, reflecting a structural ambition consistent with the double-LP format.

As the catalog number MHMLP001 indicates, Umami was the first long-player released on Moonrise Hill Material, marking a formal step for Folamour into album-length work under his own label. Collectors and researchers should verify all additional details — including personnel, pressing variants, and edition information — independently before publication.
