Fumiya Tanaka
I Am Not A DJ (Special Limited Vinyl Edition)

Listening notes

Fumiya Tanaka's *I Am Not A DJ (Special Limited Vinyl Edition)*, released on File Records in 1995 under catalog number 16FR-042, stands as a document of the electronic and techno output the Japanese artist was producing during that period. The release spreads six tracks across two sides of vinyl, offering a sequence that moves from "Billy" and "Bio-Fidelic" on the A-side through to "Galaxy" closing out the B-side.

What the tracklist reveals, even without supplementary documentation, is a willingness to work across variations and collaborations. "Loop (Fuse Mix)" positions itself explicitly as a remix, while "Lyot (Maurizio Mix)" carries the name of Maurizio — a credit that points toward involvement from outside Tanaka's immediate orbit, though the precise nature of that contribution is not elaborated upon in the available information.

The release title itself carries an implicit tension worth noting. Fumiya Tanaka built his reputation substantially through DJ work, making the declaration embedded in the title something that reads as provocation or self-commentary rather than simple statement. Whether that framing was intended ironically, earnestly, or as a kind of artistic positioning is a question the facts alone cannot settle.

The designation "Special Limited Vinyl Edition" signals that this pressing was conceived as distinct from a standard release, though the specifics of what defined that limitation — pressing numbers, packaging, or other distinguishing features — are not confirmed by the available data.

Collectors and researchers working with Japanese techno from this era will recognize File Records as the label home for this release. Beyond that affiliation and the 1995 date, the catalog entry speaks most clearly through its track titles and the names embedded within them.
