Chronobrain (Second Techno Releases From Vinyl CB19/20/21/22/23/24/25/26)

Listening notes

Released in 2001 on the Chronobrain label, this CD (catalog number CBCD02) by Guillaume La Tortue and Chris Carrier functions as a compilation drawn from the label's own vinyl output. The full title makes the source material explicit: Chronobrain (Second Techno Releases From Vinyl CB19/20/21/22/23/24/25/26), indicating that the twenty-one tracks collected here originated across eight separate Chronobrain vinyl releases, numbered CB19 through CB26.

The disc spans the electronic and techno genres and runs to twenty-one tracks. Individual durations range from brief interludes of under two minutes — "M 35" at 1:41, "Under Konstruction" at 1:14, and "Diffusion Speculaire" at 1:44 — to longer pieces such as "Cutting Brain" at 5:26 and "Home Run" at 5:05. The tracklist also includes a series of pieces sharing the "Ask 10" designation, numbered non-sequentially across the running order: Ask 10.1 through Ask 10.9 appear distributed throughout the disc rather than grouped together, suggesting an editorial decision to sequence the compilation as a continuous program rather than as a straightforward archival survey by original release.

Title choices across the set mix French and English, with entries such as "Dérivée Partielle" and "Chiralite" alongside "Bass Twin," "Washing Machine 3," and "Dk Danse Orig." The catalog number CBCD02 implies this was the label's second CD release, consistent with a label that had concentrated primarily on vinyl prior to this point.

For collectors, the release serves as a documented point of access to material that otherwise exists across multiple individual vinyl records, though nothing in the available data addresses pressing quantities, current availability, or market value of either this CD or the source records.
