Listening notes

Gum's 1987 release simply titled Vinyl carries a catalog number of DEX154E and was issued without a label affiliation, appearing under the designation Not On Label. That self-released or privately distributed status places it within a tradition of underground releases that operated outside conventional music industry channels, a circumstance not uncommon within the genres it occupies.

The record is catalogued across the genres of Electronic, Experimental, Industrial, and Noise, a combination that was finding a growing number of practitioners in the late 1980s as artists explored the outer boundaries of sound-making and recorded music as a form. Whether those genre tags reflect self-description by the artist or subsequent categorization is not confirmed by the available documentation.

The ten-track program is divided evenly across two sides. Side A opens with "Stormy Weather" and continues through "Testicle Stretch," "Injected By A Certain Amount Of Charisma," "Sporadic Acts Of Violence," and "Smooth Torture In Exile." Side B presents "Involuntary Orgasms During The Cleaning Of Automobiles," "Outfits For Agony," "Stomach Irritations," "Fear," and "Arm Fuck." No track durations are documented in the available data.

The track titles, taken together, suggest an intent toward provocation or dark absurdism consistent with strands of industrial and noise culture active during that period, though any interpretation of artistic intent remains speculative without additional primary documentation. Personnel, recording circumstances, and production details are not available in the verified record.

This draft requires fact-checker review. Gaps in documentation are significant and no claims beyond the above have been made.
