Inner City
KMS 25th Anniversary Classics - Vinyl Sampler 10 Part 1

Listening notes

Released in 2012, this vinyl sampler from KMS Records arrives under the catalog number KMSCLASSICSSMPLR010_1 as part of the label's 25th anniversary classics series. The release is credited to Inner City and falls within the electronic and house genres.

The record is organized across two sides, each carrying two versions of "Big Fun." The A-side opens with a re-edit credited to Kevin Master Reese, followed by what is listed as Magic Juan's Mix. The B-side presents a remix by Les Adams and closes with a re-edit credited to Mayday. No track durations are listed in the available documentation.

The release is identified as Part 1, suggesting the sampler series extends beyond this single record, though no additional volumes are confirmed in the available information. KMS Records, the Detroit-based label founded by Kevin Saunderson, provides the institutional context for the 25th anniversary framing, with 2012 placing the anniversary point back to approximately 1987. Inner City, the project Saunderson formed with vocalist Paris Grey, is associated with the KMS catalog through their recordings from that period.

The sampler format, presenting multiple versions of a single track across both sides, reflects a functional approach common in dance music releases intended for DJ use. The presence of named remixers and re-editors — Kevin Master Reese, Magic Juan, Les Adams, and Mayday — indicates collaborative reworking of source material, though the nature and extent of each version's alterations are not described in the verified data.
