Jerry Goldsmith
Rambo: The Jerry Goldsmith Vinyl Collection

Listening notes

Released in 2022 on Quartet Records (catalog number QRLP35), "Rambo: The Jerry Goldsmith Vinyl Collection" is a box set spanning five LPs and ten sides, gathering the composer's scores for all three films in the original Rambo trilogy: "First Blood," "Rambo: First Blood Part II," and "Rambo III."

The set is catalogued under the genres of Brass & Military, Score, Soundtrack, and Stage & Screen. The music is distributed across sides A through J, with each film occupying a defined section of the collection. The "First Blood" material runs across sides A and B, "Rambo: First Blood Part II" across sides C through F, and "Rambo III" across sides G through J.

In total, the set contains 74 individual tracks. The "First Blood" portion opens with the vocal version of "It's A Long Road" at 3:25 and closes side B with its instrumental counterpart at 3:00. The "Rambo: First Blood Part II" section includes notable longer entries such as "Revenge" at 6:18 and "Village Raid / Helicopter Fight" at 4:55. The "Rambo III" material, which occupies the final four sides, includes the set's longest single track, "You Did It / I'll Stay (End Title)," running 9:03, as well as "Night Fight" at 6:31 and "Final Battle" at 6:15.

The breadth of the tracklist across ten vinyl sides makes this a substantial physical presentation of Goldsmith's work on the franchise. Collectors and researchers working with the Goldsmith discography will find the three scores gathered under a single catalog reference for the first time in this vinyl format.
