Jonny Napalm
I Love The Smell Of Vinyl In The Morning

Listening notes

Released in 1999 on DIP Recordings (2), "I Love The Smell Of Vinyl In The Morning" is a vinyl 12-inch from Jonny Napalm, catalogued under dip 12 3037. The release sits within the electronic and hard house genres, a pairing that characterized a significant strand of UK club output during the late 1990s.

The record carries two tracks across its two sides. The A-side presents the Perm-Ego Mix, while the B-side offers the Dynamic Intervention Remix. Both are versions of the same titled work, giving the release the character of a remix single rather than a collection of distinct compositions. This structure was a common format for 12-inch dance releases of the era, allowing DJs flexibility in selecting between interpretations suited to different moments within a set.

The title itself is a self-referential gesture that would not be lost on its intended audience. A play on the celebrated line from the 1979 film Apocalypse Now, the phrase repurposed for a vinyl dance release carries an obvious wink toward the culture surrounding physical record formats at a time when they remained the dominant medium for club DJs. Whether that nod was affectionate, ironic, or simply a piece of effective branding is a matter left open by the available information.

DIP Recordings (2) serves as the releasing label, and no additional personnel or production credits are confirmed in the available data.

For collectors and researchers working through the hard house output of that period, this release represents a dateable entry point into the label's catalogue and the broader scene it served. Track durations are not confirmed in the available information and should be verified against the physical release or a reliable discographic source before publication.
