Listening notes

Knarf Rellöm Trinity released *Internet Vinyl* on the Hamburg-based Audiolith label in 2008, catalogued as AL 042. The record arrives as a standard vinyl format and sits within the electronic and house genres, though the project's broader body of work has long suggested an irreverent relationship with genre boundaries.

The four-track release is split evenly across two sides. The A-side opens with "Hans Is Playing House," running three minutes and fifty-four seconds, followed by "Gender Song" at four minutes and twenty-nine seconds. The B-side carries the longer "Supermarkt Ist Auch Ne Bildung," which at six minutes and fifty-three seconds is the most extended piece on the record, and closes with "AKD" at three minutes and thirty-two seconds. The total runtime across all four tracks amounts to just under nineteen minutes.

The track titles themselves are worth noting for anyone approaching this release cold. "Hans Is Playing House" gestures plainly at the house genre the record occupies, while "Gender Song" and "Supermarkt Ist Auch Ne Bildung" — the latter translating loosely from German as something like "the supermarket is also an education" — suggest a lyrical or conceptual dimension that extends beyond purely functional dancefloor material. Whether that dimension is fully realized in the grooves is a matter for the listener, but the titles alone indicate a project with interests that reach beyond the purely sonic.

Audiolith, the Hamburg label behind the release, has operated as a consistent home for left-field electronic music in the German-speaking world, and AL 042 places *Internet Vinyl* at a particular point in that catalogue's chronology.
