Layabouts, The
Future Retro Vinyl Sampler

Listening notes

The Layabouts' Future Retro Vinyl Sampler, released in 2012 on Reel People Music, is a four-track vinyl release catalogued as RPMCDV002. Spanning two sides, the record collects vocal mixes associated with the duo under the umbrella of the house and garage house genres, with an electronic classification applied broadly to the release.

Side A opens with "As Long As You Believe (The Layabouts Future Retro Vocal Mix)" and continues with "Too Late (The Layabouts Vocal Mix)." Side B carries "Bring Me Joy (The Layabouts Vocal Mix)" and closes with "1 Step 2 Luv (The Layabouts Vocal Mix)." The consistent application of the vocal mix designation across all four tracks, and the Future Retro qualifier on the opening cut specifically, suggests the release was assembled to represent a particular strand of the group's output rather than serve as a conventional single or album.

Reel People Music, the issuing label, has operated as a home for soul-adjacent house and electronic music, and the catalog number RPMCDV002 places this release early in a vinyl-specific sequence within their catalog. The sampler format implied by the title positions the record as a promotional or introductory document rather than a standalone artist statement, though what it was intended to sample from or promote is not confirmed by the available facts.

Track durations are not documented in the verified data for this release, and personnel, pressing details, and country of manufacture are similarly unconfirmed. Prospective reference entries should treat those fields as open pending additional documentation.
