Mardi Gras.BB feat. Eumir Deodato
Vinylsmasher

Listening notes

Released in 2001 on the Boutique label (catalog number 158 757-1), Vinylsmasher is a three-track vinyl release credited to Mardi Gras.BB feat. Eumir Deodato. The record sits across the intersection of contemporary jazz, funk, soul, and jazz, as reflected in its genre classifications.

The A-side opens with "Down Down Down (Voodoo Club Version)" at 4:06, followed by "Also Sprach Zarathustra (Variation On The Theme Of 2001)" at 3:52. The B-side carries a single track, "Also Sprach Zarathustra (Variation On The Theme Of 2001) (Play-Along-Version)," running 4:30. The presence of two distinct versions of the Zarathustra piece — one a stated variation on Richard Strauss's tone poem as associated with the 2001 theme, the other a play-along version — gives the release a focused, functional character that may appeal to musicians as well as listeners.

Eumir Deodato is a Brazilian musician and arranger who is himself associated with a well-known jazz-funk adaptation of Also Sprach Zarathustra, released in the early 1970s. His featured credit here connects the release to that broader lineage in jazz interpretations of the Strauss work, though the precise nature of his involvement on this record is not detailed in the available documentation.

Boutique was a German label, and this release carries a catalog number consistent with that imprint's output. Beyond what the label, catalog number, year, format, and tracklist confirm, further details about this release remain unverified and should be established before publication.
