Shaun Escoffery
Urban Vinyl

Listening notes

Shaun Escoffery's Urban Vinyl, released in 2002 on Oyster Music, is a four-track promotional vinyl carrying the catalog number Promo 24. The release brings together material that spans several genre territories, with the label credits placing it across contemporary R&B, electronic, funk, soul, and house — a range that suggests an artist and label comfortable operating across stylistic boundaries rather than settling into a single commercial lane.

The A-side opens with "Into The Blue (Don E Urban Vibe)," running at seven minutes and identified by its parenthetical as a remix or rework attributed to Don E. At three minutes and forty-four seconds, "So Caught Up" is the most concise track on the record and the only one sitting below the five-minute mark. The B-side pairs "Living For The Day (Livin')" and "What About You," both timed at five minutes and forty-two seconds, giving the second side a symmetry that the first side does not share.

As a promotional pressing, Urban Vinyl would have been intended for distribution to radio, DJs, or press rather than general retail sale. The promo designation and the presence of an extended remix on the A-side are consistent with the formatting conventions of promotional dance and soul releases from that period, where extended or alternative versions were commonly provided to give selectors more flexibility.

Escoffery is a British soul singer, and Oyster Music was the label associated with his output during this era. Beyond those points and the verified track information above, the specifics of personnel, production credits, and the broader context of this release within his catalog have not been confirmed for this draft and should be verified before publication.
