Masayoshi Soken
Endwalker Vinyl LP

Listening notes

Released in 2022 on Square Enix Music (catalog number SQEX-10930), this vinyl LP presents a selection of music by Masayoshi Soken drawn from Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker. The record collects ten tracks across two sides, falling within the genres of soundtrack, stage and screen, and video game music.

Side A opens with "Endwalker - Footfalls" and continues with "The Ewer Brimmeth," which carries the Japanese subtitle indicating it is the daytime theme for Old Sharlayan. The third track, "Endcaller," is subtitled as the Zodiark battle theme. Side A closes with "Flow."

Side B contains six tracks, making it the more densely programmed side of the record. It opens with "The Nautilus Knoweth," the nighttime counterpart to the Old Sharlayan theme heard on Side A. This is followed by "Sky Unsundered," subtitled as a daytime theme for Elpis. "Finality" and "Close In The Distance" occupy the third and fourth positions respectively. The fifth track, "The Final Day," carries the Japanese subtitle indicating it as the final battle theme. The record closes with "Flow Together."

Several tracks on this release feature both English and Japanese titles rendered together, a presentation that reflects the bilingual nature of Final Fantasy XIV's international release. The pairing of daytime and nighttime variants for the Old Sharlayan location across the two sides gives the sequence a loose structural symmetry.
