Mos Def / IQ Collective
Universal Magnetic (Remix From Trouble On Vinyl's IQ Collective)

Listening notes

Released in 1998 on the Rawkuts label, this vinyl single carries catalog number PTV-176 and presents two tracks under a collaborative credit shared between Mos Def and IQ Collective. The A-side offers a remix of "Universal Magnetic," identified in the full title as originating from Trouble On Vinyl's IQ Collective. The AA-side is titled "Energy Flash." No duration information is available for either track.

The release sits at an intersection suggested by its listed genres, Drum n Bass and Electronic, which places it within a broadly defined electronic music context rather than the strictly hip-hop framework most commonly associated with Mos Def's name. The specific nature of the IQ Collective's involvement, and how the remix relates to the original recording, is not detailed in the available documentation.

The Rawkuts label and the catalog numbering system it employed are not elaborated upon in the verified facts at hand, so no claims about the label's history, roster, or significance can responsibly be made here. Similarly, the circumstances of the remix's creation, the personnel involved in its production, and any reception it may have received remain outside the scope of what can be confirmed.

What the record presents on its face is a single piece of documentation: a 1998 vinyl release connecting Mos Def's name to a Drum n Bass and Electronic context through a remix format. Collectors and researchers approaching this title should treat the information above as a starting point and verify additional context through primary sources before drawing broader conclusions about its place within either artist's discography.
