Omar-S
Pain

Listening notes

Released in 2023 on FXHE Records, Pain is a four-track vinyl release from Detroit producer Omar-S, catalogued as AOS(444). The record sits within the genres of deep house, garage house, and house, categories that have long defined the output of both the artist and his label.

The A-side opens with "Tongue Pecker," a track running three minutes and forty-six seconds, followed by the title track "Pain" at four minutes and twenty-one seconds. The B-side carries "I Love Your Girlfriend," the shortest entry on the record at one minute and fifty-four seconds, and closes with "Some Good Loving" at four minutes and seventeen seconds. The total runtime across the four tracks amounts to just over fourteen minutes of material spread across two sides.

FXHE Records, the imprint Omar-S founded and operates, has served as the primary vehicle for his releases over the years, and Pain continues that pattern of self-directed output. The catalog number AOS(444) follows the label's established numbering conventions.

At four tracks, the release is modest in scope, though the sequencing places the title track second rather than as a lead, a structural choice that positions "Tongue Pecker" as the entry point. The brevity of "I Love Your Girlfriend" at under two minutes distinguishes it from the other three tracks, each of which runs closer to or beyond four minutes.
