Pure Liquid Light / A Vast Fusion Of Nice People / Residents, The
Vinyl Art!

Listening notes

Released in 2018, Vinyl Art! is a self-released lathe cut record attributed jointly to Pure Liquid Light, A Vast Fusion Of Nice People, and The Residents. Issued through what Discogs categorizes as Not On Label, the release carries no catalog number, situating it outside conventional commercial distribution channels.

The record presents three tracks on its A side. The first, "Youtube Plays The Beatles Play Beyond The Valley Of A Day In The Life," suggests an engagement with layered cultural reference, stacking YouTube, The Beatles, and Russ Meyer's 1970 film Beyond the Valley of the Dolls into a single title without resolving any of them into a straightforward statement. The second track, "Demons Dance Alone," shares its name with a 2002 album from The Residents' discography. The third, "I Am A Resident! Theme Song," invokes the collective's longstanding practice of playing with questions of identity and membership, themes that have been present in their work across decades.

The Residents are a collective who have maintained anonymity since their formation in Shreveport, Louisiana, subsequently relocating to San Francisco. The lathe cut format, which involves individually cutting records rather than pressing them in bulk, is typically associated with small-run or one-of-a-kind releases. The genres listed for this release span avantgarde, electronic, experimental, and rock, a range consistent with how The Residents' output is broadly catalogued.

No track durations are documented for this release. Whether this record connects to a specific event, installation, or project associated with the credited artists is not established by the available information.
