Rhythmatic
Energy On Vinyl

Listening notes

Rhythmatic's Energy On Vinyl was released in 1992 on Network Records under catalog number NWKT 41. The release sits at a documented intersection of genres, catalogued across bleep, breakbeat, electronic, hardcore, and techno — a combination that reflects the fluid, cross-pollinating currents running through UK electronic music at the time.

The record is an eight-track collection spread across two sides. The A-side opens with "Give Yourself To Me" at four minutes and forty-nine seconds, followed by "Heaven" at four minutes and thirty-two seconds. "Ragga Rave," the third track, runs to five minutes and twelve seconds, with its title signalling an explicit nod to the ragga-inflected sounds that were finding their way into dance music during this period. The A-side closes with "Manic" at four minutes and eight seconds, the shortest individual track on the release.

The B-side opens with "Vinyl Energy" — a track whose title mirrors, with a slight reordering of words, the release itself — running four minutes and fifty-four seconds. "Rhythmatix," at four minutes and twenty-four seconds, directly echoes the artist name in its spelling. "Nu-Groove" follows at five minutes and thirty-one seconds, and the record closes with "Vinyl Scare" at five minutes and fifty-five seconds, the longest track on either side.

Across the full runtime, the B-side is weighted toward longer individual tracks, with three of its four entries exceeding five minutes. The total tracklist clocks in at approximately thirty-nine minutes and twenty-five seconds across the eight pieces.
