Sharon Phillips
Touch Me

Listening notes

Sharon Phillips's "Touch Me," released in 2001 on the Air label, is a double-vinyl package catalogued under RTD171.2706.0. Sitting within the electronic and house genres, the release presents a single source track across six distinct versions, spread across four sides of vinyl.

The tracklist is built entirely around "Touch Me," with each side offering a different interpretive take on the material. The A-side opens with the Wackside Tweaker Mix, running at 7:22 and giving the record an immediate dancefloor orientation in terms of sheer length. The B-side pairs the Original Album Version — the shortest entry at 4:58 — with the Kenny Blakes Uplifting Mix at 7:36, placing the foundational version of the track alongside a substantially extended reworking. The C-side is given over entirely to the Tiefschwarz Remix, the longest version on the release at 8:35, occupying its side without a second track. The D-side closes the record with two versions: the Crystal Crew Carribian at 7:40, and the Supersmack Full Vocal Edit at 6:29.

The structure of the package reflects a format familiar to house releases of the period, where a remix collection on vinyl serves to offer DJs and collectors multiple approaches to the same track within a single purchase. With the exception of the Original Album Version, every cut here exceeds six minutes, suggesting the release was designed with extended play in mind rather than edited listening.

Across the four sides, the total playing time is substantial, with the six versions collectively accounting for over 42 minutes of material. The spread of named remixers — Wackside, Kenny Blakes, Tiefschwarz, Crystal Crew, and Supersmack — indicates a release that gathered contributions from multiple production sources, though nothing in the available information clarifies the background or origin of those contributors.
