Shifted Phases
The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J. Rosinthrope

Listening notes

Released on Tresor in 2023 under catalog number Tresor 196, *The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J. Rosinthrope* is a double-plus vinyl release from Shifted Phases, spanning eleven tracks across six sides. The record is catalogued under the genres of electro, electronic, and techno.

The album's title is among the more elaborately constructed in the Tresor catalog, and the track titles sustain that same sense of fictional cosmology throughout. Side A opens with "Solar Wind," the longest track on the first half of the record at six minutes and twenty-three seconds, followed by the comparatively brief "White Dwarf" at three minutes and forty-eight seconds. Side B carries "Waveform Cascades" and "Dance Of The Celestial Druids," running four minutes and thirty seconds and four minutes and forty seconds respectively.

The second record opens on Side C with "The Freak Show" and "Implosive Regions," the latter slightly longer at four minutes and fifty-eight seconds. Side D continues the astronomical framing with "Lonely Journey Of The Comet Bopp" and "Crossing Of The Sun-Ra Nebula," the second of which edges just past five minutes. Side E pairs "Scattering Pulsars" with "Alien Vessel Distress Call," the longest track on these four sides at six minutes and fifty-seven seconds.

The record closes on Side F with a single track, "Flux," running seven minutes and fifty-seven seconds — the longest piece on the release and the only track assigned a full side to itself. That structural decision gives the closing track a distinct weight on the physical format, whatever its content.

In total, the eleven tracks amount to roughly fifty-nine minutes of music spread across three twelve-inch records. The release sits within Tresor's ongoing catalog of electronic music, a label with a long association with techno and its adjacent forms. This draft requires fact-checking before publication.
