Sigur Rós
Hlemmur

Listening notes

Sigur Rós released Hlemmur on their own Krúnk label in 2019, catalogued as KRUNK23LP10. The release is a four-sided vinyl record classified under the electronic and experimental genres.

The tracklist spans nineteen pieces across four sides. Side A opens with "Jósep Tekur Fimmuna Í Vinnuna" at three minutes and four seconds, followed by the title track "Hlemmur" at one minute and thirty-eight seconds, "Fyrsta Ferð" at two minutes and thirty-five seconds, and "Vetur" at one minute and forty-eight seconds. Side B carries six tracks: "Hvalir Í Útrýmingarhættu," "Hlemmur 2," "Þversögn," "1970," "Jósep Tekur Fimmuna Í Vinnuna 2," and "Ég Mun Læknast!," the longest of which runs three minutes. Side C holds six tracks including "1993," "Hlemmur 3," "Síðasta Ferð," "23:20 (Lokað)," "Byrgið," and "Áfram Ísland." Side D closes the record with three tracks: "Allt Tekur Sinn Tíma!," "Hannes," and "Óskabörn Þjóðarinnar," the latter being the longest single piece on the record at four minutes and forty-five seconds.

Several titles appear in variant or numbered form across the running order, including two versions of "Jósep Tekur Fimmuna Í Vinnuna" and three iterations of "Hlemmur" itself. The title "Hlemmur" refers to a bus terminal in Reykjavík, though the relationship between that reference and the material on this release is not addressed by the available facts. Individual track durations are brief throughout, with the majority of pieces falling under three minutes, and the total program is spread deliberately across a double-LP format.
