Simply Red
Home Mixes - (Vinyl)

Listening notes

Simply Red's Home Mixes arrived in 2012 as a digital file release distributed through the band's own website, simplyred.com, carrying no catalog number. The release brings together six tracks drawn from remix sessions built around three of the group's songs: "Money In My Pocket," "Sunrise," and "Fake."

The tracklist opens with three versions of "Money In My Pocket." The first, credited to Wai Wan and Blood And Fire Sound, runs four minutes and twenty-one seconds. It is followed by two mixes credited to Commissioner Gordon — a Main Mix at three minutes and twenty-nine seconds and a Vocal Mix at three minutes and twenty-five seconds. The remaining three tracks address "Sunrise" and "Fake." ATFC contributes two remixes of "Sunrise": the Morning Glory Remix, which extends to nine minutes and five seconds, and the Early Riser Dub at an even eight minutes. The collection closes with Love To Infinity's Classic Mix of "Fake," clocking in at seven minutes and thirteen seconds.

The genres associated with this release span a notably wide range, including Electronic, Funk / Soul, House, Lovers Rock, and Reggae, reflecting the variety of approaches the contributing remixers brought to the source material.

As a file-only release issued without a catalog number and sold through the artist's own platform, Home Mixes occupies a particular space outside conventional retail distribution. It carries no major label involvement on record and was not issued in a physical format. Collectors and researchers approaching Simply Red's discography should note that documentation surrounding this release is limited, and any additional details about its production or commercial context would benefit from independent verification before publication.
