Sleep D
Rebel Force

Listening notes

Sleep D's *Rebel Force*, released in 2019 on Melbourne label Incienso, arrives as the seventh entry in the label's catalog under the designation INC007. Spread across four sides of vinyl, the record collects ten tracks that together span just under an hour of material drawing from acid, breakbeat, house, and techno.

The sequencing gives each side a distinct shape in terms of running time and track count. Side A opens with "Red Rock (IV Mix)" at seven minutes and nine seconds before moving to the comparatively brief "Central" at five minutes and thirteen seconds. Side B carries the longest individual track on the record: "Danza Mart" runs eight minutes flat, followed by "Twin Turbo" at four minutes and forty-eight seconds, with "Jazz" closing the side at two minutes and fifty-three seconds — the shortest piece here. Side C is the most densely packed, offering three tracks in "Fade Away" (seven minutes and thirty-six seconds), "Reggatron" (five minutes and twenty-two seconds), and "Special Sector" (four minutes and forty-eight seconds). Side D closes the record with two longer pieces, "Morning Sequence" at six minutes and two seconds and "Pearlescent Skyline" at six minutes and twenty seconds.

Across the full runtime, the range in track lengths — from under three minutes to over eight — suggests an intentional variation in format and approach within a release that otherwise positions itself squarely within electronic dance music territory. The genre tags associated with the record, which include acid and breakbeat alongside house and techno, point to a set that likely resists a single stylistic classification, though the record's contents would need to be heard to characterize further.
