Spyro Gyra
Vinyl Tap

Listening notes

Spyro Gyra's *Vinyl Tap*, released in 2019 on Amherst Records (catalog number AR-2000-2), is a CD offering from the long-running fusion and jazz outfit. The album presents nine tracks with a combined runtime that stretches well past the fifty-minute mark, giving the collection a substantial feel on paper.

The tracklist is built largely around familiar titles drawn from rock, pop, and jazz repertoire. Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home," Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love," and The Beatles' "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" represent the rock side of the program, while the Doobie Brothers' "What A Fool Believes," War's "The Cisco Kid," and Squeeze's "Tempted" round out a selection of well-known songs from the 1960s through the 1980s. Oliver Nelson's jazz standard "Stolen Moments" and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's "Carry On" also appear, alongside an original-sounding title, "Secret Agent Mash," which opens the record at just over six minutes.

The album's name, *Vinyl Tap*, appears to gesture toward the group's relationship with recorded music history, though the precise intent behind the title is not documented in the available information.

Amherst Records has been associated with Spyro Gyra across multiple releases, and the AR-2000-2 catalog number places this within that label's numbering system. Beyond those details, the production background, personnel, and circumstances surrounding the recording are not confirmed here and have been left for further verification.

Fact-checkers should confirm the original songwriters and copyright holders for all covered titles, verify any personnel credits, and clarify whether "Secret Agent Mash" is an original Spyro Gyra composition or itself a medley or arrangement of existing material.
