Philadelphia International Classics: The Tom Moulton Remixes - Special Vinyl Edition

Listening notes

Philadelphia International Classics: The Tom Moulton Remixes — Special Vinyl Edition was released in 2012 on the Harmless label under catalog number HURTXVINYL112. The set is formatted as a vinyl box set and spans genres including disco, funk, soul, rhythm and blues, and funk/soul, reflecting the breadth of the Philadelphia International Records catalog from which its material is drawn.

The collection presents thirty-one tracks across sixteen sides, labeled A through P, with Tom Moulton credited as remixer throughout. The track lengths are notably extended, a consistent characteristic across the set. Several run beyond ten minutes — "The Love I Lost" at 12:28, "Love Is The Message" at 11:30, "Don't Leave Me This Way" at 11:03, and "Intro / My Love Don't Come Easy" at 10:46 among them — while the shortest entries still clock in at approximately five and a half minutes. The final side, P, carries only one listed track, "Where Will You Go When The Party's Over" at 9:05, leaving P2 unoccupied.

The tracklist draws from a range of Philadelphia International artists and includes titles such as "Back Stabbers," "T.S.O.P. The Sound Of Philadelphia," "Love Train," "Bad Luck," "I Love Music," "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine," "Nights Over Egypt," and "Do It Anyway You Wanna," among others. The combined running time across all thirty-one tracks exceeds four hours by a significant margin.
