12"Collector's Vinyl Box: Italo Disco

Listening notes

Released in 2020 on ZYX Music, the 12" Collector's Vinyl Box: Italo Disco (catalog number MAXI BOX LP21) is a five-record box set collecting material filed under the Electronic, Italo-Disco, and Pop genres. The set presents its content across ten sides of vinyl, with individual records devoted to specific tracks and their variants.

Vinyl 1 pairs two versions of "Humanoid Invasion": a Dance Mix running 7:15 and a Space Mix at 6:09. Vinyl 2 turns to "Fashion," offering a Club Mix and Extended Master-Mix each clocking in at 6:50, alongside a Single Version at 4:10. Vinyl 3 gives the most generous treatment to "Comanchero," spreading four versions across both sides: a Vocal Extended (7:38), an Instrumental (6:28), a Special Disco Remix Extended (8:35), and a Special Disco Remix Radio edit (4:08).

Vinyl 4 follows the same four-version structure with "Cenerentola (Cinderella)," presenting a Vocal Extended (7:55), Instrumental (7:00), Remix Vocal Extended (8:03), and Remix Instrumental (6:16). Vinyl 5 closes the set with four versions of "Strange Vibration," including a Flemming Dalum Edit (6:56) and a Hysteric Edit (8:09), alongside two other versions running 7:35 and 6:40.

The box set's organizing principle is evident in its track-by-track format: each record is dedicated to a single song presented in multiple extended or remixed forms, a structure consistent with the 12-inch maxi-single tradition the title references. The set spans a total of twenty tracks distributed across five records.
