25 Years Megarave Records (The Lost Vinyl Edition)

Listening notes

Released in 2020 on Megarave Records (catalog number MR089), "25 Years Megarave Records (The Lost Vinyl Edition)" is a four-disc CD compilation marking a quarter-century of the label's activity in the electronic, gabber, and hardcore genres. Despite the vinyl framing suggested by its subtitle, the format documented here is CD.

The set is substantial in scope, assembling 56 tracks across its four discs. The first three discs collect original material, running from titles such as "God Is A Gabber" and "I'm A Gabber Baby" through to "Focking Niet Normaal," with individual track durations generally falling between three and seven minutes. The fourth disc shifts focus to remixes and refixes, crediting names including Buzz Fuzz, Angerfist, Headbanger, Dione, The Stunned Guys, E-Noid, G-Town Madness, and Nosferatu across its twelve entries. Tracks revisited on disc four include "The Horror," "Prey," and "Assassins," among others.

Taken together, the four discs represent a significant runtime, and the remix disc in particular assembles contributors whose names are recognizable within the hardcore and gabber scenes. The tracklist titles across all four discs reflect vocabulary and themes consistent with the harder end of electronic music that Megarave Records has been associated with throughout its existence.
