Boogie Chillen (Early Mods' First Choice Vinyl)

Listening notes

Fantastic Voyage released Boogie Chillen (Early Mods' First Choice Vinyl) in 2013 under catalog number FVDV156. The compilation spans four sides of vinyl and brings together twenty-four tracks drawn from across the blues, rhythm and blues, soul, and funk spectrum, with the label also listing Latin among the release's genre designations.

The title is taken from the opening track, a version of the John Lee Hooker staple listed here as "Walkin' The Boogie (AKA Boogie Chillen)." The framing concept, as stated in the release title, positions the music as representative of what early mod listeners gravitated toward, a scene known for its appetite for American rhythm and blues and soul recordings.

The tracklist covers considerable stylistic ground. Side A moves from blues into rhythm and blues territory, with titles including "Big Boss Man," "Fannie Mae," and "I'm A Lover Not A Fighter." Side B shifts toward a slightly more pop-inflected range, featuring "Reet Petite (The Finest Girl You Ever Want To Meet)," "Little Bitty Pretty One," and "Willie And The Hand Jive." Side C returns to a harder blues footing with tracks such as "Watch Your Step" and "Good Morning Little School Girl," alongside "Night Train" and "Some Other Guy." Side D closes the set with a varied run including "El Watusi," reflecting the Latin genre tag applied to the release, alongside "Comin' Home Baby" and "Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah."

Track durations are not listed in the available data. Individual artist credits per track have not been confirmed for this draft and should be verified before publication.
