Cooking Vinyl In Rockdelux

Listening notes

Cooking Vinyl In Rockdelux is a compilation CD released in 2000 on Sinedín Music, bearing catalog number SM-027. The release brings together twenty tracks drawn from across a notably broad stylistic range, with the listed genres spanning acid jazz, alternative rock, electronic, indie rock, pop, pop rock, and rock. That breadth alone makes the disc an interesting document of where independent music sat at the turn of the millennium, even if the specifics of which artists contributed each track are not recorded here.

The tracklist runs from "Go," which opens at three minutes and fourteen seconds, through to "All You Fascists Bound To Lose," closing the disc at four minutes and ten seconds. Several titles carry a period-specific texture in their naming — "Fob.com" being the most obvious signal of its era — while others, such as "Requiem For Nico" and "Non-Alignment Pact," suggest a more literary or politically conscious strand within the selection. The longest track is "You Remember" at five minutes and twelve seconds; the shortest is "Convertible" at two minutes and twelve seconds. Total runtime across all twenty tracks amounts to roughly seventy-three minutes.

The compilation's title flags a partnership between Cooking Vinyl, the independent British label founded in 1986, and Rockdelux, the long-running Spanish music publication. A release of this kind — a label presenting its catalogue through the platform of an established music press outlet — was a familiar promotional format in that period, though the precise terms or context of this particular collaboration are not documented in the available facts.

Collectors cataloguing label samplers or Spanish music press editions from around 2000 will want to note the Sinedín Music imprint and the SM-027 catalog designation for identification purposes.
