Dance Train Classics Vinyl 20

Listening notes

Dance Train Classics Vinyl 20 is a various artists release issued in 2001 on the 541 label, carrying catalog number 541416 500675. The record is a vinyl release spanning three tracks across its two sides, situated within the electronic and house genres.

The A side is given over entirely to a single extended track, "Big Love (Original Mix)," which runs for nine minutes and twenty-five seconds. That duration suggests the kind of floor-oriented programming associated with twelve-inch culture, where space is afforded for a track to develop across a longer arc than radio or album formats typically allow.

The B side is divided between two tracks. "So In Love With You (Pizzaman House Mix)" occupies the B1 position at seven minutes and thirty-six seconds, while "Your Loving Arms (Original 12\" Edit)" closes the record at B2, running six minutes and two seconds. The designation of the latter as an "Original 12\" Edit" indicates it is drawn from or shaped by a prior twelve-inch release. The Pizzaman House Mix credited on the B1 track points to a specific remix lineage, with the Pizzaman name attached to a particular reworking of the source material.

Taken together, the three tracks amount to a substantial runtime, with the release functioning in the format common to dance music compilations of the period: gathering together versions oriented toward extended play and DJ use rather than shorter, more commercially compressed edits.

As part of the Dance Train Classics series, this pressing sits within a body of releases united under that banner, though the full scope of the series is not detailed here. The 2001 release date places it at a moment when vinyl remained a primary format for house music distribution and club use.
