Delicious Vinyl Presents... Prime Cuts Volume 1

Listening notes

Delicious Vinyl Presents... Prime Cuts Volume 1 is a compilation released by Delicious Vinyl in 2000, issued on CD under catalog number 61044-71821-2. The label, which had been operating out of Los Angeles, used the release to gather material spanning a range of styles cataloged under contemporary R&B, downtempo, dub, electronic, hip hop, and pop rap.

The twelve-track collection runs just under fifty-two minutes in total. It opens with "Smoker's Emporium" at four minutes and fifty-six seconds and closes with "What's Up Fatlip?" at three minutes and eighteen seconds. The tracklist also includes "Used To Be My Lover," "Sometimes (Remix)," "All My Love," "New World," "Say A Little Prayer," "Jealousy," "Saturday Nite," "Millenium Jump," "Observations," and "Too Many." Individual track lengths range from three minutes and eighteen seconds to five minutes flat, with the majority falling between four and five minutes.

The breadth of genres listed across the compilation reflects the range Delicious Vinyl had worked within since its founding in the late 1980s, a period during which the label built a roster that moved between hip hop and R&B. The "Volume 1" designation in the title suggests the release was conceived as the first in a potential series, though no further details about subsequent volumes are available from the verified information at hand.

No individual artist credits per track are confirmed in the available data, so specific performer attributions are not included here and should be verified before publication. The catalog number and label details are drawn directly from the release information and should be cross-checked against physical copies or official documentation.
