Delicious Vinyl Presents: Prime Cuts Volume 1

Listening notes

Delicious Vinyl Presents: Prime Cuts Volume 1 is a compilation released by Delicious Vinyl in 2000, carrying catalog number 61044-71821-1 and issued on vinyl. The release spans four sides across what the format and track layout suggest is a double LP, with thirteen tracks distributed across sides A through D.

The compilation draws from a notably wide range of genres as cataloged: Contemporary R&B, Downtempo, Dub, Electronic, Funk / Soul, Hip Hop, and Pop Rap. That breadth is reflected in the tracklist itself, which moves across moods and tempos without settling into a single register. Side A opens with "Smoker's Emporium" at four minutes and fifty-six seconds and closes with a remix of "Sometimes" at four thirteen. Side B runs three tracks including "All My Love," "New World," and "Say A Little Prayer," the last of which is the longest cut on that side at four minutes and forty seconds. Side C is the most densely packed at four tracks, running from "Jealousy" through "Get Your Own," with the brief "Millenium Jump" — spelled as it appears on the release — clocking in at three minutes and twenty-eight seconds. Side D closes the record with three tracks, ending on "What's Up Fatlip?," the shortest track on the compilation at three minutes and eighteen seconds.

The title frames this as the first volume in a Prime Cuts series under the Delicious Vinyl imprint, though no further volumes are accounted for within the verified information available here. As a label-curated compilation, it presents Delicious Vinyl's roster and affiliates at the turn of the millennium, though individual artist credits and personnel are not confirmed in the source data and should be verified before publication.
