Dissymmetrical Vinyl 02

Listening notes

Dissymmetrical Vinyl 02 is a 2018 various artists release on Dissymmetrical Music, issued under catalog number DSSMV02. The record spans four tracks across two sides, working within the genres of drum and bass, electronic, and jungle.

Side A opens with "Don't Trust The Words," the longest track on the release at eight minutes and twenty-four seconds, followed by "So Good," which runs five minutes and fifty-five seconds. Side B carries "Influence" at six minutes and fifty seconds, closing with "Vostok1 (Remix)," a reworked version of an existing track that extends to seven minutes and thirty-one seconds. The total running time across all four tracks comes to just under twenty-nine minutes.

As the catalog number suggests, this is the second vinyl release from Dissymmetrical Music, a label operating in the drum and bass and jungle space. The compilation format, crediting various artists, positions the record as a platform for multiple contributors under a single label identity, a common approach for labels seeking to present a cross-section of their roster or affiliates.

The tracklisting is weighted toward longer cuts, with three of the four tracks exceeding six minutes. This is consistent with the extended arrangements typical of drum and bass and jungle productions, where builds, breakdowns, and rhythmic development often benefit from additional runtime. The inclusion of a remix on the B-side, "Vostok1 (Remix)," indicates at least one track on the release is a reinterpretation of existing material, though the origin and remixer are not confirmed here.
