Foliage Vinyl Sampler Volume 1

Listening notes

Released in 2023 on the Foliage label, the Foliage Vinyl Sampler Volume 1 (catalog number FNVS010) is a four-track compilation issued on vinyl and spanning the deep house and electronic genres. As its title suggests, the release functions as a sampler, drawing together material connected to the label's catalog.

The record's two sides run to just over twenty-six minutes of music in total. Side A opens with "Glory (Atjazz 2022 Rework)" at six minutes and twenty seconds, followed by "Reciprocity (Main Mix)" at six minutes and forty-three seconds. Side B carries "Mitodzi (Jimpster Remix)" at six minutes and thirty-five seconds, closing with "Summer Breeze (Fka Mash Re-glitch)" at seven minutes and five seconds.

The tracklist is notable for the names attached to the reworked material. Atjazz, Jimpster, and Fka Mash each contribute remixes or reworkings, while one track appears in what is described as a main mix. The parenthetical designations — rework, remix, and re-glitch — suggest a compilation built substantially around reimagined versions of existing recordings rather than original productions, though the source material for each track is not specified in the available documentation.

At four tracks across two sides, the release is relatively brief by compilation standards, with each cut given enough runtime to suit the extended structures common to house music. Whether this sampler was intended primarily as a promotional tool or as a standalone consumer release, the format choice of vinyl places it within a continued market for physical media among electronic music listeners.
