Foliage Vinyl Sampler Volume 2

Listening notes

Released in 2023 on the Foliage label, Foliage Vinyl Sampler Volume 2 (catalog number FNVS011) is a four-track various artists collection spanning deep house and electronic music. As the title suggests, it is the second installment in what the label has positioned as a sampler series, offering a cross-section of material pressed to vinyl.

The record runs across two sides. Side A opens with a Jimpster remix of "Don't Let Me See," clocking in at six minutes and forty-eight seconds, followed by a vocal mix of "Addicted" at five minutes and thirty-seven seconds. Side B carries "Unification Vibration" in the Atjazz Main Mix at six minutes and thirty-two seconds, closing with a Turbojazz and Sean McCabe remix of "Listen To This Drum," the longest selection at seven minutes and three seconds.

The tracklist brings together a number of named remixers — Jimpster, Atjazz, Turbojazz, and Sean McCabe — alongside the vocal and instrumental configurations already represented in the catalog. The four tracks total just over twenty-six minutes of running time, a modest but focused program consistent with the practical constraints of a vinyl release in these genres.

Foliage Vinyl Sampler Volume 2 is a straightforward document of where the label's catalog stood at the point of this release. Whether it functions as an introduction to the label for new listeners or as an addition for those already familiar with its output, the format and sequencing suggest an intention to present a curated overview rather than a conventional album. As a sampler, its purpose is essentially curatorial, and on those terms the release is self-explanatory.
