Head To Head (Kickin Music vs. Vinyl Solution)

Listening notes

Head To Head (Kickin Music vs. Vinyl Solution) is a various artists compilation released on Kickin Records in 1990, bearing the catalog number KV 1. The release is formatted as vinyl and spans four sides, indicating a double-record package. Its eight tracks are spread across sides A through D, with two tracks per side.

The compilation draws from genres listed as breakbeat, electronic, hardcore, and techno, reflecting the range of sounds that were circulating through UK dance music in 1990. The title frames the release as a meeting point between two entities, Kickin Music and Vinyl Solution, though the specific nature of that relationship, whether curatorial, label-based, or otherwise, is not elaborated upon in the available documentation.

The tracklist offers some variation in how individual tracks are presented. Several carry mix designations that suggest alternate versions were in circulation: side A opens with "The Exorcist (Visual Mix)" and is followed by "X-Static." Side B contains "Crack Train (Club Mix)" and "5,6,7,8 (Original Mix)." Side C includes "Whitelight," noted as a previously unreleased mix at the time of this release, alongside "My First Memory (X-Clusive Mix)." Side D closes the compilation with "Soundclash (Hyper Mix)" and "Inner Mind (Club Mind)."

The designation of the "Whitelight" entry as a previously unreleased mix is a notable detail embedded in the track title itself, suggesting the compilation was positioned at least in part as an outlet for material not yet available elsewhere. Track durations are not documented in the available data.

No additional personnel, recording, or release context has been confirmed and is therefore not included here. This draft should be reviewed against primary source materials before publication.
