Hit Hip Hop On Hot Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on ZYX Records, Hit Hip Hop On Hot Vinyl (catalog number ZYX 20.054) is a various artists compilation spanning the genres of hip hop, electro, and electronic music. The record collects ten tracks across two sides, offering a snapshot of what the label chose to represent under those genre designations at that moment in the mid-1980s.

Side A opens with "Egypt Egypt" and continues through "Surgery," "Let's Jam," "Ugly Women," and "What's Your Sign." Side B carries five additional titles: "Big Butt," "Revelation," "Rockberry Jam," "Innovator," and "Girls." Track durations are not documented in the available information.

ZYX Records, a German independent label, was active in licensing and releasing dance, electronic, and hip hop material during this period, and this compilation appears consistent with that output. Beyond the label, catalog number, year, format, and tracklist, the verified facts on hand do not extend to individual artists or performers credited on specific tracks, recording details, pressing specifications, or the compilation's place within any broader commercial or cultural context. Those details would require independent verification before publication.

What can be stated plainly is that the record exists as a ten-track vinyl release filed under hip hop, electro, and electronic, issued at a time when those genre categories were still being actively defined in the marketplace. Researchers and collectors seeking further detail on individual tracks or contributing artists should consult label documentation or contemporaneous trade sources.
