Italo Disco 12" Collectors Vinyl Box

Listening notes

Released by ZYX Music in 2016, the Italo Disco 12" Collectors Vinyl Box (catalog number MAXI BOX LP1) is a ten-disc vinyl box set drawing from the electronic, Italo-disco, and pop genres. The set brings together a range of material across its ten records, offering both dedicated single-title pressings and compiled bootmix volumes.

The first eight vinyl discs each present a single track in both vocal and instrumental versions, formatted as 12-inch releases. Titles across these discs include "Fires In The Night," "Happy Children," "The Night," "Disco Band," "Tonight," "Humanoid Invasion," "Puppy Love (Do You Remember)," and "Chinese Revenge." Running times on the vocal and instrumental pairings generally fall in the five-to-seven-minute range, consistent with extended 12-inch formatting. "Humanoid Invasion" offers a different approach, pairing a Dance Mix against a Space Mix rather than a straightforward vocal-instrumental split.

The final two discs shift format considerably. Vinyl 9 presents the ZYX Italo Disco Boot Mix Volume 1, a continuous mix divided across two sides with sixteen individual titles, each running between roughly two and four minutes. Vinyl 10 carries the ZYX Italo Disco New Generation Bootmix 3, similarly structured across two sides with nineteen segmented tracks, some running under two minutes. Where the Boot Mix Volume 1 draws on titles recognizable elsewhere in the set — including "Happy Children" and "The Night" — the New Generation Bootmix 3 incorporates a separate pool of material.

The box set is catalogued under a single release, consolidating what would otherwise be separate 12-inch issues and bootmix compilations into one package. No individual artist attributions are listed at the release level; the set is credited to Various Artists throughout.
