Macrospective Vinylism

Listening notes

Macrospective Vinylism, released by the Berlin-based label Macro in 2011 under catalog number MACRO M25V, is a fifteen-track compilation drawing from the label's catalog across the genres of deep house, electronic, and techno. Despite its title and the consistent "Vinyl Version" designation applied to each track, the release was issued in file format.

The compilation runs to a considerable total runtime, with individual tracks ranging from just under four minutes to more than fourteen. The longest entry is a Stefan Goldmann remix of "Arcade," clocking in at 14:24, while the shortest is the second of two Pépé Bradock mixes of "Subharmonic Atoms," at 3:42. Several tracks exceed the ten-minute mark, among them "Expense Of Spirit" at 10:11 and "Brittle" at 12:05, suggesting programming oriented toward extended listening or DJ use.

The tracklist includes work attributed to outside contributors in a remixing capacity. Oni Ayhun is credited with a remix of "Memory Fails Me," KiNK with a mix of "Soon," and Stefan Goldmann and Pépé Bradock each with versions of their respective tracks. "Arcade" appears twice on the release: once in the Stefan Goldmann remix and once in what is identified as its own vinyl version, at 6:20.

The "Vinyl Version" tag applied uniformly across all fifteen tracks is notable given that the release exists as a digital file release rather than a physical pressing. Whether this designation reflects an earlier vinyl source, a mastering distinction, or a curatorial framing specific to the compilation's concept is not established by the available catalog data alone and would require further verification.
