Medusa Outdoor - The Vinyl Collector II

Listening notes

Medusa Outdoor - The Vinyl Collector II is a 2025 compilation released on the Medusa Outdoor label under catalog number MO_02. Spanning seven tracks across two sides, the record sits within the electronic, minimal techno, and techno genres.

The compilation is organized around a curatorial framework that divides the record by selector. Side A was chosen by Michael Forzza and opens with "Rapax" at five minutes and thirty-nine seconds, followed by "Brontide" at five minutes and thirty-five seconds, "Coming Back" at four minutes and fifty-nine seconds, and "CO>LAB 003 Original" at five minutes and thirty-five seconds. The four tracks run at broadly similar lengths, keeping the side compact and consistent in its pacing on paper.

Side B was selected by Jochen Robberecht and takes a noticeably different approach in terms of track duration. "Laughing Gas" opens the side at eight minutes and nine seconds, followed by the longest track on the release, a Radio Slave remix of "Queen Of The Night," which runs nine minutes and twenty-one seconds. The side closes with an extended mix of "Free Your Mind" at six minutes and fourteen seconds. The three tracks account for a combined runtime of just over twenty-three minutes, giving Side B considerably more playing time than Side A.

As the second entry in the Vinyl Collector series, this release continues a format that places individual curatorial voices at the center of the compilation structure, with each selector responsible for one side of the record. The use of named selectors as an organizing principle, rather than a single compiler or thematic concept, is a distinguishing feature of how the series presents its material.
