Listening notes
Metal Gear Solid: Vinyl Selections, released by Laced Records in 2024 under catalog number LMLP217S, is a compilation drawing music from across the Metal Gear Solid series. Credited to various artists, it falls under the Stage & Screen and Video Game Music genres and spans two records.
The first record opens with the Metal Gear Solid Main Theme in a version subtitled "The World Only Needs One Big Boss," attributed to both Metal Gear Solid 3 and 2, followed by "Encounter" and "The Best Is Yet to Come" from the original Metal Gear Solid. Side A continues with two selections from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty — "Yell 'Dead Cell' (VR Remix)" and "Twilight Sniping." Side B shifts to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater with "Snake Eater" and "Sidecar - Escape From The Fortress," then closes with a Peace Walker Medley and "Heavens Divide," both from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
The second record begins with material from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, including "Overture ~ Metal Gear Saga" and a dedicated medley from that title. "Calling to the Night," sourced from Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, also appears on this side. Side B broadens the scope further, featuring "Ground Zeroes" and "Bloodstained Anthem" from Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, "Here's to You" from Guns of the Patriots, and three tracks from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain — "V Has Come To," "Quiet's Theme," and "Sins of the Father."
Taken as a tracklist, the compilation works through a substantial portion of the numbered series, from the first Metal Gear Solid through The Phantom Pain, while also including the portable entries Peace Walker and Portable Ops. No durations are listed for any of the eighteen tracks.
