Only On Vinyl Vol. 7 - Trance

Listening notes

Released in 2000 on ZYX Music, Only On Vinyl Vol. 7 - Trance (catalog number ZYX 55203-2) is the seventh installment in the label's Only On Vinyl compilation series, here focused on the trance genre within the broader electronic music category. Despite the series title suggesting a vinyl-primary identity, this particular release was issued on CD.

The compilation presents seventeen tracks with a combined runtime that spans a notably varied range of durations. Several entries run past the six-minute mark — "Speechless," "Dreaming," "Amazonias Cry," "Talk About It," and "Dancefloor Virus" each clock in at or around that length — suggesting an orientation toward extended structures common in electronic dance music of the period. At the other end, "Time Machine" runs just one minute and thirty-six seconds, and "Temple Of Light" comes in at two minutes and forty-two seconds, making them considerably shorter than the compilation's other entries.

The track titles themselves reflect a range of approaches characteristic of trance releases around 2000, from the evocative ("Mystic," "Temple Of Light," "Man On The Moon") to the more functionally descriptive ("Dancefloor Virus," "Loops 2000"). The German-language title "Die Vier Elemente," meaning "The Four Elements," suggests at least some European continental contribution to the compilation's contents.

ZYX Music, a German independent label, was active in licensing and compiling electronic music during this era, and the Only On Vinyl series extended to at least seven volumes. No artist attribution is attached to individual tracks in the available documentation. This draft requires fact-checker review before publication.
