Pop Fiction Act One (Vinyl 1 of 2)

Listening notes

Pop Fiction Act One is a 2005 various artists release issued by Hot Banana, carrying the catalog number hot banana 1004. Presented as Vinyl 1 of 2, the record is formatted as part of a larger two-volume set, suggesting the label conceived the project as a substantial compiled work rather than a single standalone disc.

The release sits across the Electronic, House, and Synth-pop genres, a combination that was well-represented in mid-2000s club and DJ culture, where compilation formats on vinyl remained a practical vehicle for delivering remixed and reworked material to DJs and collectors alike.

The A-side carries a single track, "Sex On The Line" in a mix credited to Benoit Bollini, running five minutes and twenty seconds. The B-side holds two tracks. The first, "Keep Me Hangin' On," appears in a version labeled the David Carretta Dirty Dub Confort Remix, at five minutes and forty-three seconds. The second B-side track, "Out Of Order," is presented as a Dubmix and clocks in at five minutes and seven seconds. The presence of named remixers on two of the three tracks points to the compilation's orientation around remix culture, a format consistent with how House and Electronic music was often packaged and marketed for dancefloor use during this period.

The total running time across the three tracks amounts to approximately sixteen minutes and ten seconds, a runtime typical for a 12-inch vinyl release structured for club play rather than home listening convenience. Whether a second vinyl volume under the Pop Fiction Act One title exists with additional content is implied by the Vinyl 1 of 2 designation, though no further details about that companion release are available here.
