Listening notes

Released in 2019 on Ample Soul (catalog number AS044-1), Samurai Champloo - The Way Of The Samurai / Vinyl Collection is a various artists compilation spanning six sides of vinyl. The release carries the label's catalog identifier AS044-1 and sits across genres listed as Breaks, Downtempo, Electronic, and Hip Hop.

The collection runs to nineteen tracks distributed across three records. Side A opens with "Battlecry" at 3:20, followed by "Nightshift" at 4:42 and "Numbernine (Back In TYO)" at 3:26. Side B contains "Just Forget" (3:55), "Process" (4:41), and "Olé" (3:07). Side C moves through "Raw Material" at 4:52, "Bracelet" at 3:43, and "World Without Words," the longest track on the set at 6:13. Side D carries four tracks — "The Stroll" (2:57), "Silver Morning" (3:37), "Tubed (Drum Please!!)" (4:31), and "Funkin" (3:36) — making it the only side with more than three entries. Side E holds "Tsurugi No Mai" (3:24), "Sneak Chamber" (3:15), and "Genome" (3:26). The collection closes on Side F with "Death Wish" (2:43), "In Position" (3:53), and "Sincerely" at 4:48.

The total running time across all six sides is substantial for a compilation format, with individual track lengths ranging from just under three minutes to slightly over six. The four-sided genre classification — bridging breaks, downtempo, electronic, and hip hop — reflects the range of material the set draws together under the Samurai Champloo title.
