Serious Beats 50 (Vinyl 2)

Listening notes

Serious Beats 50 (Vinyl 2) was released in 2006 on the 541 label under catalog number 541416 501522. A compilation format across genres listed as Acid, Electronic, Techno, and Trance, this particular vinyl disc is one component of the broader Serious Beats 50 release, a long-running Belgian compilation series marking its fiftieth volume.

The three tracks pressed to this twelve-inch cover a notable span of early electronic club music. The A-side is given entirely to "A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld (Orbital Dance Mix)," running eight minutes and ten seconds. The title is associated with The Orb, whose sprawling ambient house productions were a defining presence in the early 1990s underground, though no personnel details for this specific mix are confirmed within the available data. The B-side opens with "Can You Feel It (In House Dub)" at four minutes and forty-two seconds, followed by "Bang The Acid" at seven minutes and forty-six seconds, the latter title directly signaling the acid house lineage the compilation draws on.

The Serious Beats series was a consistent presence in the Belgian electronic music market through the 1990s and into the 2000s, and reaching a fiftieth volume represents a significant run for any compilation imprint. That milestone appears to be the primary context for this release.
