Slammin' Vinyl Present Absolute Classic Hardcore

Listening notes

Released in 2000 on the Slammin' Vinyl label, Absolute Classic Hardcore (catalog number SVLPHH006) is a various artists compilation spanning twelve tracks across six sides of vinyl. The format alone signals ambition: a triple-LP configuration gives each of the twelve selections room to breathe, with running times ranging from four minutes and twenty-two seconds for "Re-Baptised By Dub" to six minutes and forty-one seconds for "Dance The Dream."

The tracklist draws from the breakbeat, electronic, and hardcore genres, a combination that places the release within a broader UK dance music context that was well established by the time of this compilation's appearance. Titles such as "Keep The Fire Burning," "Never Try The Hippodrome (Remix)," "Right Before My Eyes," and "Exodus (When The Lion Awakes)" occupy the first two sides, while the remaining eight tracks are distributed across sides C through F. The inclusion of a remix — "Never Try The Hippodrome (Remix)" at position A2 — indicates that at least one track existed in an earlier form before this release.

The Slammin' Vinyl name on the label connects this record to a recognisable strand of UK dance culture, though the specific curatorial rationale behind the track selection is not documented in the available information. What the format and tracklist do confirm is that this was conceived as a substantial physical release rather than a casual single or EP, with its six-sided construction demanding committed listening from anyone approaching it on vinyl.

As an unverified draft, all claims here derive strictly from the catalog data provided. Personnel, recording origins, pressing details, and any reception this release may have received have not been confirmed and are not addressed above.
