Soul Diggin': Soul Music Gems From Vinyl Diggers

Listening notes

Soul Diggin': Soul Music Gems From Vinyl Diggers is a various artists compilation released in 2022 on Wagram Music, catalog number 3419776. The record presents itself squarely within the Funk / Soul and Soul genres, and its title positions it explicitly as material drawn from the vinyl digging tradition — the practice of searching through physical record collections and crates for overlooked or hard-to-find recordings.

The compilation spans thirteen tracks across two sides. Side A opens with "I Cry" at four minutes and twelve seconds, the longest cut on the record, followed by "How Can You Say It," "Ridin' High," "Casanova 70" — which at five minutes and thirteen seconds is the single longest track on the release — "Tobacco Road," and "A Fool Can't See The Light." Side B carries seven tracks: "(I Can) Deal With That," "Here I Go Again," "Tammie," "Misdemeanor," "Sounds Ridiculous," "Away With You," and closing with "I Love The Way You Love" at three minutes and ten seconds.

The tracklist leans toward concise running times, with a number of cuts falling under three minutes, a characteristic consistent with the single-oriented formatting common to much soul music of earlier decades. "Casanova 70" is a notable exception, suggesting it may offer a more extended arrangement relative to the surrounding material, though the available facts do not confirm the nature of that difference.

Wagram Music is a French independent label with a catalog that spans reissues and themed compilations. Beyond that context and the verified release details above, further claims about this record's contents, sourcing, or significance would require additional documentation. Collectors and researchers seeking more detail on individual tracks or contributing artists should consult the label's official documentation.
