Listening notes

The Final Vinyl Collectors Box, released on the Fax +49-69/450464 label under catalog number BOX PK, is a substantial multi-format set combining vinyl records and a CD in a single box. The release draws material from across the Fax catalog, grouping tracks by their source releases rather than presenting a single continuous program.

The vinyl portion is organized across an extended sequence of sides running from A through AH, with each grouping corresponding to a distinct Fax catalog title. Among the represented releases are The Dark Side Of The Moog III and IV, Elektro, Namlook's Atom, 4Voice 6, two volumes of Amp, Ozoona, Electronic Music Center, Transonic's Downstream Illusion, two Move D and Namlook collaborations, Cycloid, Spyra's Phonehead, and the Higher Intelligence Agency and Pete Namlook collaboration S.H.A.D.O., among others. Several entries are designated as excerpts, indicating that the vinyl presentations draw selectively from their source material rather than reproducing complete releases.

Individual tracks vary considerably in length. Sides AA and AB each carry a single piece running past fifteen minutes, while other sides accommodate two or three shorter tracks. The CD component collects eleven tracks under the title Ambient-Compilation 2 (Collectors Item Edition), cataloged separately as PK 08/02, with individual tracks ranging from under four minutes to just over thirteen.

The genres listed for the set span ambient, downtempo, electronic, and trance, reflecting the breadth of Fax's output during the period the constituent releases represent. No release year is confirmed in the available documentation.
