Various
The Vinyl Detective

Listening notes

Released in 2019 on the Vinyl Passion label (catalog number VP90129), The Vinyl Detective is a various artists compilation issued on vinyl. The record spans genres catalogued as Bop, Jazz, and Soul-Jazz, and contains twelve tracks spread across two sides.

Side A opens with "Theme From The Vinyl Detective" before moving through a set of titles drawn from the broader jazz repertoire. Among them are "I Could Write A Book," "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," "Time After Time," "Warm Canto," and "Heart And Soul." Side B continues with "Love Theme From Spartacus," "The Way You Look Tonight," "Thou Swell," "Waltz For Debby," and "Don'cha Go 'Way Mad," closing with "Theme From The Vinyl Detective (Full Version)."

Several of the titles on the tracklist have histories stretching back through the mid-twentieth century jazz canon. "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" is associated with Charles Mingus, "Waltz For Debby" with Bill Evans, and "Love Theme From Spartacus" with the 1960 film score, though no information is available here regarding which performers or arrangers appear on this particular compilation. Track durations are not listed in the available documentation.

The presence of a dedicated opening and closing theme, bookending the record's two sides, suggests the compilation was assembled with some degree of programmatic intent, though the nature of that concept is not something the available facts can fully explain.

No information is available in the verified data regarding personnel, pressing specifications, or edition details. Researchers and collectors seeking those particulars should consult supplementary documentation before treating this entry as complete.
