Twisted! - The Best Of Twisted Vinyl Vol. 1

Listening notes

Released in 1995 on the Twisted Vinyl label, "Twisted! - The Best Of Twisted Vinyl Vol. 1" (catalog number TVLP 1) is a various artists compilation spanning twelve tracks across four sides of vinyl. Catalogued under the genres of Electronic, Gabber, and Hardcore, the release presents itself as a survey of the Twisted Vinyl catalog up to that point, as its subtitle suggests.

The tracklisting runs across sides A through D, with three cuts per side. Side A opens with "Techno Renegades (Davie Forbes Mix)" before moving through "Burn Mother Fucker" and "Eliminator." Side B carries "Bang To The Beat," "Power Of Darkness," and "Aint It Wild!" Side C includes "Psychotic Mayhem," a Vince Watson remix of "Hardcore Science," and "Move Dammit." The fourth side closes the set with "Schoppen Trommel," "Rise Of The Demon," and "Cologned."

The presence of a named mix on the opening track and a credited remix on side C — the Davie Forbes Mix and the Vince Watson Remix respectively — indicates that at least two of the twelve tracks are reworked versions rather than original productions, a distinction worth noting for anyone researching the label's discography in detail. Track durations are not documented in the available data.

The "Vol. 1" designation in the title implies the label intended the compilation series to continue, though no information about subsequent volumes is available here to confirm that. As a label overview release, this record functions primarily as a document of Twisted Vinyl's output in the gabber and hardcore electronic styles as they existed in the mid-1990s.
